Role Summary

Postal Affairs Associate (P1)

The Postal Affairs Associate role supports the Postal Affairs Manager in the transportation, handling, and regulatory compliance of postal shipments within Alaska Airlines Air Cargo operations. As an individual contributor role focuses on adherence to USPS contractual obligations, TSA security protocols, and federal regulations while coordinating efficient mail processing, tracking, and customer service. The associate role will work closely with internal teams, postal authorities, and regulatory agencies to maintain operational excellence in mail transportation and ensure timely payment for services.

Postal Affairs Specialist (P2)

The Postal Affairs Specialist is responsible for developing solutions to support the Postal Affairs Manager in overseeing the transportation, handling, and regulatory compliance of postal shipments within Alaska Airlines Air Cargo operations. As an individual contributor role makes recommendations for and ensures adherence to USPS contractual obligations, TSA security protocols, and federal regulations while coordinating efficient mail processing, tracking, and customer service. The specialist will work closely with internal teams, postal authorities, and regulatory agencies to maintain operational excellence in mail transportation and ensure timely payment for services.

Key Duties

Postal Affairs Associate (P1)

  • Assists in ensuring all mail shipments adhere to federal regulations, including those set by the United States Postal Service (USPS) and other relevant authorities such as Transportation Security Administration (TSA), and Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations.

  • Under the direction of the Manager, Postal Affairs, will communicate between the airline and postal agencies, facilitating effective communication and addressing operational issues.

  • Focus on maintaining accurate records of mail shipments, including manifests, tracking information, and compliance documentation for payments.

  • Provide input on the development and delivery of training programs for cargo staff on proper handling procedures for mail shipments and updates on regulatory changes.

  • Assists in implementing and monitoring quality control measures to ensure the integrity, security and audit trail of mail throughout the transportation process.

  • Provide input on mail flow data and performance metrics, identifying trends and areas for improvement.

  • Takes initiative to address and resolve discrepancies or concerns related to mail shipments, working collaboratively with internal teams and external partners.

  • Assist in developing contingency plans for weather disruptions, operational delays, and security incidents impacting mail shipments.

  • Stay current with federal postal regulations, industry trends, and airline cargo advancements, ensuring compliance and competitive performance.

  • Support the implementation of new tracking technologies, automation, and process improvements to enhance efficiency.

  • Applies industry knowledge to ensure all mail shipments adhere to federal regulations, including those set by the United States Postal Service (USPS) and other relevant authorities such as Transportation Security Administration (TSA), and Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations.

  • With limited direction of the Manager, Postal Affairs, will liaison between the airline and postal agencies, facilitating effective communication and addressing operational issues.

Job-Specific Experience, Education & Skills

Required

  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite.

  • Excellent organizational, communication, problem-solving, and analytical skills.

  • Ability to work in both a team environment and independently.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, or a related field or an additional two years of relevant training or experience in a related field in lieu of this degree.

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • Minimum age of 18.

  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S.

Preferred

  • 2 years of experience in relevant air cargo operations, postal or logistics or relevant experience.

  • Relevant certifications in logistics, cargo handling, or air transportation.

  • Experience in communicating and presenting to senior leadership.

  • Advanced knowledge of data analytics and usage of data exploration tools.

  • Strong understanding of USPS regulations, TSA air cargo security, and aviation logistics.

Salary Range

$54,100- / year

Pay Details

Entry range: $54,100 - $75,700

Intermediate range: $78,000 - $97,450

Salary Details

Pay will be based on multiple factors, including and not limited to location, relevant experience/level and skillset while balancing internal equity relative to other Alaska/Horizon employees. Alaska/Horizon is committed to fair, unbiased compensation along with competitive benefits in all locations in which we operate.

Note: We don’t typically hire at the top of the range.
