Job Description

This role focuses on the assembly and integration of aircraft structures and systems, with a strong emphasis on C-17 integral fuel cell assemblies and major wing structures. You will work on composite and metal aircraft, building and attaching major wing assemblies, joining fuselage and wing sections, and installing and reworking plumbing, electrical components, systems, and structures. The position requires extensive hands-on work inside confined wing fuel cells, use of a wide range of hand and power tools, and consistent adherence to technical work instructions, drawings, and specifications.

Responsibilities

  • Read, interpret, and comprehend technical work instructions, engineering drawings, and specifications to perform assembly tasks accurately.
  • Assemble and install parts, structural components, and sub-assemblies to build and attach major wing assemblies, including sealing, plumbing systems, and electrical components.
  • Perform procedures related to fuselage and wing joining, ensuring correct fit, alignment, and structural integrity.
  • Work on composite and metal aircraft structures using drills and high-impact vibratory tools, including bucking and riveting operations.
  • Use a variety of tools such as screwdrivers, lock bolt pullers, power screwdrivers, C-squeeze tools, ratchet wrenches, nut runners, torque wrenches, crimpers, cable tools, and other hand tools to complete assembly tasks.
  • Apply and work with chemical lubricants, solvents, sealants, coatings, primers, adhesives, paints, and special finishes in accordance with procedures.
  • Operate computers in a production environment to access work instructions, enter data, and document work performed.
  • Inspect completed work for quality, ensuring compliance with specifications and identifying and correcting defects.
  • Perform Foreign Object Debris (FOD) checks and maintain a clean, safe work area to protect aircraft systems and structures.
  • Operate mechanical lifts of various types, such as scissors lifts and elevated work platforms, to access work areas safely.
  • Work inside confined spaces within wing fuel cells for extended periods, performing sealing, inspection, and assembly tasks.
  • Perform fine finger manipulation, including keyboarding and tool handling, to complete detailed assembly and documentation tasks.
  • Read from computer screens, printed drawings, and documents to ensure accurate execution of work.

Essential Skills

  • Ability to access and enter a wing fuel tank opening of approximately 18 inches, including working inside confined fuel cell spaces.
  • 2 year of experience using various types of handheld power tools in a production, maintenance, or similar environment.
  • 2 year of experience following oral and written instructions accurately in a technical or industrial setting.
  • Proficiency in reading and understanding technical work instructions, drawings, and specifications.
  • Comfort working with chemical lubricants, solvents, sealants, coatings, primers, adhesives, paints, and special finishes.
  • Experience using drills and high-impact vibratory tools, including bucking and riveting operations.
  • Ability to use common hand and power tools such as screwdrivers, lock bolt pullers, power screwdrivers, C-squeeze tools, ratchet wrenches, nut runners, torque wrenches, crimpers, and cable tools.
  • Ability to operate computers in a production environment for accessing instructions and recording work.
  • Physical ability to perform extended periods (approximately 6–8 hours) of bending, kneeling, reaching, standing, climbing, crawling, crouching, and working from elevated platforms.
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull objects weighing approximately 10–35 pounds on a regular basis.
  • Comfort working in environments with constant noise and within confined spaces for several hours per shift.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality, including performing thorough inspections and FOD checks.
