As a Lead Electrical Systems Engineer for the Transmit Group (TG), you’ll lead a small cross functional team responsible for the design, requirements, development, manufacturing, integration, production and life cycle maintenance of active sonar TG onboard all U.S. Navy legacy and emergent submarine classes. TG produces the high energy pulses of sound that travel through the water to identify targets of interest. Help us make the world’s most advanced Transmit Group system more capable!
The TG team works with the Navy, internal production staff and representatives from other companies that provide companion systems and services to ensure TG systems meet all requirements, are delivered on time and function properly both in a laboratory environment and onboard U.S. Navy submarines.
Responsibilities:
Lead the design and development of advanced transmit electronic equipment, ensuring systems meet all functional, performance, and design requirements.
Collaborate with design engineering, production engineering, subject matter experts, and other stakeholders to develop high-power amplifier systems from concept through production.
Perform requirements analysis, trade studies, and feasibility assessments for system, electrical, and mechanical designs.
Lead modeling, simulation, and concept development activities to optimize system performance and manufacturability.
Create and review detailed technical documentation, including schematics, interface control drawings, assembly drawings, and design specifications.
Evaluate electrical components and subsystems for performance impacts to existing and future designs.
Conduct detailed technical analysis for electrical systems across concept, requirements, platform integration, design, and life cycle maintenance phases.
Lead the definition, allocation, and verification of system and electrical requirements down to subsystem and component levels.
Provide technical planning, risk analysis, and supportability assessments for electrical system elements.
Mentor and guide lower-level engineers, fostering technical growth and ensuring alignment with project objectives.
Drive technical presentations and proposal development efforts, effectively communicating solutions to internal teams and external customers.
Qualifications:
- U.S. Citizenship is required by Federal Law
- Ability to obtain a DoD Secret Clearance within in a reasonable amount of time is required
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related technical field.
Experience: 8+ years of relevant hardware design experience.
Exceptional communication and collaboration skills with the ability to drive technical innovation and secure buy-in on concepts from design to production.
Proven ability to translate complex technical information for senior leadership, customers, and stakeholders.
Strong expertise in power/analog hardware, inboard/outboard electronic systems, and electrical system integration.
Proficiency in requirements analysis, system and electrical design, trade studies, and design review processes.
Experience designing and specifying unit controllers, telemetry, waveform generation, timing systems, and input power systems.
Deep understanding of amplifier design, including Class A, AB, C, D, and S amplifiers, and their behavior with complex reactive loads.
Expertise in specifying cables, connectors, receptacles, and related hardware for diverse environments.
Hands-on experience with electrical system CAD tools and design documentation.
Desired Skills:
- We encourage you to apply if you have any of these preferred skills or experiences: Linear amplifier design, Electro-mechanical manufacturing, Power/analog hardware and systems
- Hands on experience with at least one major CAD tool (e.g. SolidWorks,Inventor, Catia etc.) for 5 years AND one major CAE tool (e.g. ANSYS, CDADAPCO, ALGOR etc.)
Acoustic systems for submarines and/or submersibles.
Acoustic transducer or projector applications.
Linear amplifier design and characterization.
Knowledge of Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) and digital engineering tools and processes.
Familiarity with Sonar systems and acoustic applications.
Understanding of electro-mechanical manufacturing processes.
